| Patrick
heads into the office for another day of youthfully energetic
constituent service. |
Patrick
At Work
Patrick's
areas of personal interest
in terms of policy-making are not limited only to the promotion
of youth-related causes and legislation. Patrick is active in many
other areas:
WOMEN'S
ISSUES
Patrick
is a vocal supporter of the feminist movement, and believes that
the halls of Parliament should be filled with many more women; especially
young women.
DIVERSITY
As
a ninth-generation Australian, Patrick feels a special kinship with
other immigrants. He works tirelessly to ensure equal representation
for all: Greek, Italian, Malaysian, Thai... he does avoid Indian
food, however, as it disagrees with his weak bowels.
RACISM
Patrick
dislikes it, in all its forms. Says Patrick, "There is no
excuse for belittling anyone's race or religion, in any context."
CENSORSHIP
Patrick
has publicly defended many young artists, such as local Parnell
resident Francois Bhanot, whose "Jesus Tastes Man-Prong Red,
#6" was unfairly accused by columnist Andrew Bolt in 1999 of
being "disgusting smut of the worst, most unapologetic kind".
GLOBALISATION
Patrick
has studied the arguments for and against globalisation, and while
he finds McDonalds food to be delicious and satisfying as a meal
-- especially when on the go -- he cannot deny that the tactics
used by such powerhouse multinational corporations are often less
than moral. Luckily, now that he is free of the commercial restraints
placed on him as a member of a major political party, he is free
to speak out against unethical treatment of Third World workers
and the like. Patrick only asks that you keep in mind that not much
is going to be done about it while he is the only politican brave
and moral enough to take a stand.
