Adam Hills / Cut Loose
JACOB ZHIVOV
I first saw Adam Hills at Offshore three years ago and
since then I've tried to catch his gig at least once a year. He's
funny, what else can I say. His humour is what I like -- stupid observations
about politics and people's behaviour in general. The nice part is
that you get the overseas perspective on Australians overseas and
our leaders.
This year Adam Hills gives us "what's on his mind"
with a bit from everywhere and some audience participation ta boot.
Yes, there are the obligatory comments on the war this year but it's
a comedy must or something.
Go see him, he's really funny.

Terri Psiakis, Michael Chamberlin, Charlie Pickering
/ Equal Third
JACOB ZHIVOV
Its good to see up and coming comedians and these three
are really worth your dollar.
Equal Third is a stand-up gig broken up into sets for
the three comedians. Charlie Pickering, Michael Chamberlin & Terri
Psiakis each give us their view on the world. The greatest thing about
their gig (apart from the comedy) is that it's in the Council Chamber
and far the most comfortable venue for the Comedy Festival. No wonder
people want to be Lord Mayor.
Each of the three has a similar style with Terri starting
the show discussing topics from the war to Avril Lavigne (staple parts
of any comedy show these days). Michael and Charlie (who have a satirical
news show called Boiling Point 2 -- also on at the fest this year)
also go on about the war, footy and Tatu.
These guys are definitely worth seeing regardless of
price and hey its three comedians for the price of one which is always
good.
DAVID BLUMENSTEIN
All three of them were good, although I sort of felt
Terri Psiakis didn't go as far as she could have with her gags. The
audience was a bit quiet all night (through no fault of the comedians),
but they pepped up a bit during Michael Chamberlin's and Charlie Pickering's
sets, possibly because these two guys are a bit more willing to go
out on a limb for a laugh. Terri Psiakis is, however, more attractive
than they are. Charlie Pickering moves like a chimp onstage. I'm not
sure if he's aware of it or not, but it certainly doesn't hurt the
comedy. A fine show.
