BOYZ

Another illegal street racing film, whoopee, The Fast
and the Furious on motorbikes, you know this is gonna be good. Yes,
biker gangs and street racing is the setting for this coming of age
/ father-son drama and much like The Fast and the Furious the racing
and machines are what you watch this film for.
Our tale is about two men, Smoke (Laurence Fishburne),
the leader of a gang, who no one has been able to match in speed or
confidence when they challenge him to race. The other is Kid (Derek
Luke), who, when faced with the tragedy of his father's death, decides
to form his own gang, called the Biker Boyz, and challenge Smoke's
standing in this underworld. For Kid, it's a matter of pride and rage,
but for Smoke, Kid's rise to prominence signals an end of an era for
the gangs, and one he's not going to let go of quietly.
This film is slow to start and unless you like bike
racing the story doesn't do much for you. Unlike The Fast and the
Furious, this film doesn't do the cool nitro effects shots in its
race scenes and really that's what you want to see.
Laurence Fishburne and Derek Luke are pretty much wasted
in their role but I believe I read somewhere that they both like motorbikes
and that's why they did this film. Also, look out for ex-Roswell star
Brendan Fehr and "rocker" Kid Rock as well.
This film is one of those that you don't hate but you
don't really like as well. Wait 'til you can catch it on cable or
video.
BIKER BOYZ stars Laurence Fishburne, Derek Luke and
Kid Rock. It is rated M and is 110 minutes long. It opens today as
a general release (it's on at lots of places).
