I love a good courtroom drama and for the most part John Grisham novels, which base themselves in this scenario, have been brought to the screen pretty well, Runaway Jury is one of those movies.

The film revolves around the biggest possible precedent case in gun laws when the widow of a man killed in an office shooting sues the gun manufacturer of the weapon that was used, under the claim that they knew the store that sold it was not obeying the laws about firearm sales. Nick Easter (John Cusack) is a juror on this landmark case His girlfriend, Marlee (Rachel Weisz), tries to swindle the attorneys to pay millions of dollars while he attempts to influence the other jury members of the jury to vote a verdict friendly to their clients.

This was indeed a different sort of court case drama as it doesn't revolve around the court case itself but more about the jury that decides over it and the lawyers involved. This is a character based drama and picking a cast that can actually act makes it a much more enjoyable film. Like the other John Grisham films the height of the drama is kept to the end but it is worth the wait.

RUNAWAY JURY stars Gene Hackman, Dustin Hoffman, John Cusack and Rachel Weisz. It runs 127 minutes and is rated M.
